Horace Swaby (1954. június 21. – 1999. május 18.), művésznevén Augustus Pablo, jamaicai roots reggae és dub zenei producer és billentyűs. Az 1970-es évek óta aktív. Talán ő volt az első és leghíresebb melodika művész.

Horace Swaby (June 21, 1954 – May 18, 1999), better known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards. He popularized the use of the melodica (an instrument at that time primarily used to teach children music in the Jamaican public schools) in reggae music. He was a committed Rastafarian.

He was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica and learned to play the organ at the Kingston College School. It was at that point an unnamed girl lent him the melodica. Fascinated by the instrument, Pablo rarely put it down. He also met Herman Chin Loy, who after working at his cousin Leslie Kong's Beverley's record shop, had set up his own Aquarius store in Half Way Tree. Swaby recorded early tracks including "Higgi Higgi", "East of the River Nile", "Song of the East", and "The Red Sea" between 1971 and 1973 for Chin-Loy's Aquarius Records. Chin Loy had previously used the name Augustus Pablo generically for keyboard instrumentals recorded by Lloyd Charmers and Glen Adams,and Swaby took the name for this recording.

"East of the River Nile", a unique blend of East Asian and Jamaican sounds, became a moderate hit. He soon joined Now Generation (Mikey Chung's band) and played the keyboard with them while his friend Clive Chin began his own career as a record producer. Pablo and Chin recorded "Java" (1972) together,as soon as Pablo quit Now Generation and Clive was able to get the studio time. This instrumental was a massive hit and launched Pablo's solo career. He recorded with Chin and various others, including Leonard Chin, his uncle, and Lee Perry. He scored another smash hit with "My Desire" (John Holt).

Pablo formed the labels Hot Stuff, Message and Rockers (named after his brother's soundsystem, Rockers), and released a steady stream of well-received instrumentals, mostly versions of older hits from Studio One. In spite of his success with Rockers, Pablo's 1974 album, This Is Augustus Pablo was recorded with Clive and Pat Chin. This was followed by a collaboration with the legendary reggae engineer King Tubby, 1975's Ital Dub.

In the later 1970s, Pablo produced a steady stream of hits, including the hit "Black Star Liner" (Fred Locks). He also worked with Dillinger, Norris Reid, I-Roy, Jacob Miller, Te -Track, The Immortals, Paul Blackman, Earl Sixteen, Roman Stewart, Lacksley Castell, The Heptones, Bob Marley, Ricky Grant, Delroy Wilson, Junior Delgado, Horace Andy and Freddy McKay. This period was eventually commemorated with critically acclaimed LPs including King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown (1976) and Hugh Mundell's classic Africa Must be Free by 1983. This was followed by East of the River Nile (1978), Original Rockers (1979) and Rockers Meets King Tubby in a Firehouse, another acclaimed hit album.

In the 1980s, Pablo's career slowed significantly. In 1980, he appeared on the soundtrack of the documentary D.O.A. He had begun to establish an American audience and released Rising Sun in 1986 to good reviews and sales. Pablo also produced memorable hits, including "Ragamuffin Year" (Junior Delgado), "Humble Yourself" (Asher & Tremble) and "Far Far Away" (Ricky Grant). In addition, he toured extensively throughout the world, making a memorable live album in Tokyo in 1987. That same year, Rockers Come East re-established his career and he began to release a series of critically acclaimed though somewhat inaccessible albums in the 1990s, including Blowing With the Wind and also producing several, such as "Night & Day" (single) (Dawn Penn) and "Jah Made Them All" (Yami Bolo).

Augustus Pablo died as a result of a collapsed lung on 18 May 1999.[4] He had been suffering for some time from the nerve disorder Myasthenia gravis.

While studying at Kingston Technical High School, Scotty and fellow students Valman Smykle and A. J. Franklin (born Franklin Spence) formed a reggae trio called The Federals. They began performing paid concerts in 1967, and shortly thereafter they attracted the attention of reggae producer and music promoter Derrick Harriott while performing at a Kingston venue called the Sombrero Club. Harriott added them to a tour of reggae artists, Derrick Harriott's Musical Chariot, and helped them record a series of singles. Their first single, "Penny For Your Song", was a local hit, but subsequent singles failed to chart, and in 1969 Smykle quit the group and moved to New York. After the break-up of The Federals, Scotty and Franklin re-formed their group by adding two new members, Noel "Bunny" Brown and Richard MacDonald. They adoped the name The Chosen Few, and resumed work under Harriott. Their popularity increased in 1970 after they provided back-up vocals for Hopeton Lewis's single "Boom Shacka Lacka", and later that year they scored a Jamaican #1 hit of their own with "Psychedelic Train".

Shortly after this success, Harriott removed Scotty from The Chosen Few, replacing him with Busty Brown, the former singer for The Messengers. Instead, Scotty provided DJ work for various groups under Harriott's auspices, such as The Crystallites, his first DJ outing being "Musical Chariot". He appeared on numerous charting hits during this period, such as "Sesame Street" (1970, reaching #3 in Jamaica), "Riddle I This" (1970, #1) and "Jam Rock Style" (1971). His song "Draw Your Brakes", a deejay version of Keith & Tex's hit "Stop That Train", was in the soundtrack to the film, The Harder They Come.

Scotty's style prefigured the 'singjay' style of the late 1970s. He continued working with Harriott until 1972, after which he spent a couple of years working with other producers such as Harry J, Lloyd Charmers, and Sonia Pottinger. Scotty moved to the United States in 1974, settling in Florida. He established a recording studio and a record label, but these both failed, and he returned to Jamaica. He resumed recording, now in a ragga style, and was working on a new album when he died of prostate cancer in 2003.

Jackie Mittoo (3 March 1948 — 16 December 1990) was a Jamaican keyboardist, songwriter and musical director. He was a founding member of The Skatalites and was a mentor to many younger performers, primarily through his work as musical director for the Studio One record label.
He was born Donat Roy Mittoo in Browns Town, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, and began learning to play the piano when he was four under the tutelage of his grandmother.

In the 1960s he was a member of The Skatalites, The Rivals, The Sheiks, The Soul Brothers and The Soul Vendors. Among Mittoo's contributions in the mid to late 1960s were "Darker Shade of Black" (the basis for Frankie Paul's "Pass the Tu Sheng Peng"), Freddie McGregor's "Bobby Babylon", Alton Ellis' "I'm Still in Love with You", The Cables' rocksteady anthem "Baby Why" and Marcia Griffiths' first hit, "Feel Like Jumping". He played for Lloyd "Matador" Daley in 1968 and 1969.

He emigrated to Toronto, Canada at the end of the 1960s. There he recorded three albums, Wishbone (Summus), Reggae Magic (CTL) and Let's Put It All Together (CTL). He also set up the Stine-Jac record label, as well as running a record store.

In 1970, his song "Peanie Wallie" was versioned by The Wailers, becoming the hit "Duppy Conqueror".[1] He had a hit with Wishbone in 1971. He performed in local Toronto lounges throughout the 1970s. Mittoo assisted Toronto-area reggae musicians, including Earth, Roots and Water, Esso Jaxxon (R. Zee Jackson), Carl Harvey, Lord Tanamo, Boyo Hammond, Carl Otway, The Sattalites, Jackie James and Jason Wilson. Mittoo continued to record for Jamaican producers in the 1970s, mostly Bunny Lee.[2]

In the 1980s, he worked regularly with Sugar Minott. In 1989, Mittoo joined the reunited Skatalites, but health problems soon forced him to bow out. In 1989 and 1990 he recorded Wild Jockey for Lloyd Barnes’ Wackies label.

Mittoo entered a hospital on 12 December 1990 and died of cancer on 16 December at the age of 42.His funeral was held at the National Arena in Kingston, Jamaica, on 2 January 1991. Hortense Ellis, Neville 'Tinga' Stewart, Desmond "Desi Roots" Young, Ruddy Thomas, Tommy Cowan, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd were among the attendees. A memorial concert was held around the same time, with performances by Vin Gordon, Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, Glen 'Bagga' Fagan, Pablo Black, Robert Lynn, Michael "Ibo" Cooper, Ken Boothe, Delroy Wilson, Carlene Davis, Tinga Stewart and others.

Israel Vibration is a reggae harmony trio, originating from Kingston, Jamaica. Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skeleton" Spence all overcame childhood polio and went on to be one of the most successful roots groups to form in Jamaica in the late 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center.

After going their separate ways, and each converting to the Rastafari movement, they reunited in Kingston and formed a vocal group. Funding for their first album came in the form of a grant from the Twelve Tribes of Israel branch of Rastafari after Hugh Booth, a member of the Twelve Tribes, had overheard the three men singing in a wooded area outside Kingston. Apple and Wiss were living in the area, which they had converted into a home.

After releasing a single called Why Worry in 1977 Israel Vibration recorded three albums; The Same Song, Unconquered People, and Why You So Craven before temporarily disbanding in 1981 after recording sessions for the latter were left incomplete. The three men moved to the United States to seek professional health care and escape the growing Dancehall movement in Jamaica. In 1988, Gary "Dr. Dread" Himmelfarb, founder of RAS Records, urged the trio to reunite and record an album. Skelly, Apple, and Wiss were flown to Washington, D.C. to record a new album at Lion and Fox Recording Studios in College Park Maryland. "Strength of my Life", the group's fourth album and first of 18 CD releases on the RAS label, was met with great praise and is considered one of the few post-golden era touchstones of the roots reggae genre.

In 1997, as Dr. Dread tells it, Apple Gabriel left the group to pursue a solo career. Skelly and Wiss continue to record albums and tour the world as Israel Vibration, backed by longtime associates Roots Radics.

Jamaican Soundsystem history:

The sound system concept first became popular in the 1950s, in the ghettos of Kingston. DJs would load up a truck with a generator, turntables, and huge speakers and set up street parties. In the beginning, the DJs played American rhythm and blues music, but as time progressed and more local music was created, the sound migrated to a local flavor. The sound systems were big business, and represented one of the few sure ways to make money in the unstable economy of the area. The promoter (the DJ) would make his profit by charging a minimal admission, and selling food and alcohol. It was not uncommon for thousands of people to be in attendance. By the mid 1950s, sound systems had eclipsed live musicians in any combination for the purpose of staging parties. By the second half of the decade, custom-built systems began to appear from the workshops of specialists such as Headley Jones, who constructed wardrobe-sized speaker cabinets known as "House[s] of Joy". It was also around this time that Jamaica's first superstar DJ and MC, Count Machuki (b. Winston Cooper) rose to prominence. As time progressed, sound systems became louder--capable of playing bass frequencies at 30,000 watts or more, with similar wattage attainable at the mid-range and high frequencies--and far more complex than their predecessors, record players with a single extension speaker. Competition between these sound systems was fierce, and eventually two DJs emerged as the stars of the scene: Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, and Duke Reid.

The popularity of a sound system was mainly contingent on one thing: having new music. In order to circumvent the release cycle of the American record labels, the two sound system superstars turned to record production. Initially, they produced only singles for their own sound systems, known as "Exclusives" or Dubplates - a limited run of one copy per song. What began as an attempt to copy the American R&B sound using local musicians evolved into a uniquely Jamaican musical genre: ska. This shift was due partly to the fact that as American-style R&B was embraced by a largely white, teenage audience and evolved into rock and roll, sound system owners could no longer depend on a steady stream of the singles they preferred: fast-shuffle boogies and ballads. In response to this shift in supply, Jamaican producers introduced to their work some of the original elements of the Jamaican sound: rhythm guitars strumming the offbeat and snare-drum emphasis on the third beat, for example. As this new musical form became more popular, both Dodd and Reid began to move more seriously into music production. Coxsone Dodd's production studio became the famous Studio One, while Duke Reid founded Treasure Isle.

As sound systems continued to gain in popularity through the 1960s and 1970s, they became politicized in many instances. Many sound systems, and their owners, were labeled as supporters of a particular political party (such as the PNP or the JLP), but most of the sound systems tried to maintain political neutrality. Nevertheless, as a cultural and economic phenomenon, the sound system was affected by the vast socio-political changes taking place in Jamaica at this time.

Caribbean history

The islands had a core population of descendants of African slaves and workers and remnants of the indigenes, while colonial masters changed rapidly bringing settlers from France, Spain and the United Kingdom, together with their music styles. According to another version, the French brought Carnival to Trinidad, and calypso competitions held at Carnivals grew in popularity, especially after the abolition of slavery in 1834.

While most authorities stress the African roots of calypso, in his 1986 book Calypso from France to Trinidad, 800 Years of History veteran calypsonian The Roaring Lion (Rafael de Leon) asserted that calypso also descends from the music of the medieval French troubadours. The name was originally kaiso, which is now believed to come from Efik ka isu 'go on!' and Ibibio kaa iso 'continue, go on', used in urging someone on or in backing a contestant.

Over 100 years ago, calypso further evolved into a way of spreading news around Trinidad. Politicians, journalists, and public figures often debated the content of each song, and many islanders considered these songs the most reliable news source. Calypsonians pushed the boundaries of free speech as their lyrics spread news of any topic relevant to island life, including speaking out against political corruption. Eventually British rule enforced censorship and police began to scan these songs for damaging content. Even with this censorship, calypsos continued to push boundaries.

The first calypso recordings, made by Lovey's String Band, came in 1912 and inaugurated the "Golden Age of Calypso". By the 1920s, calypso tents were set up at Carnival for calypsonians to practice before competitions; these have now become showcases for new music.

The first major stars of calypso started crossing over to new audiences worldwide in the late 1930s. Attila the Hun, Roaring Lion and Lord Invader were first, followed by Lord Kitchener, one of the longest-lasting calypso stars in history—he continued to release hit records until his death in 2000. 1944's Rum and Coca-Cola by the Andrews Sisters, a cover of a Lord Invader song, became an American hit despite the song being a very critical commentary on the explosion of prostitution, inflation and other negative influences accompanying the American military bases in Trinidad at the time.

Calypso, especially a toned down, commercial variant, became a worldwide craze with the release of the "Banana Boat Song", a traditional Jamaican folk song, whose best-known rendition was done by Harry Belafonte on his 1956 album Calypso; Calypso was the first full-length record to sell more than a million copies. 1956 also saw the massive international hit Jean and Dinah by Mighty Sparrow. This song too was a sly commentary as a "plan of action" for the calypsonian on the widespread prostitution and the prostitutes' desperation after the closing of the United States naval base on Trinidad at Chaguaramas.

In the 1957 Broadway musical Jamaica, Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg cleverly parodied "commercial", Harry Belafonte style Calypso.

Several films jumped on the Calypso craze in 1957 such as 20th Century Fox's Island in the Sun that featured Belafonte and the low budget flms Calypso Joe (Allied Artists), Calypso Heat Wave (Columbia Pictures), and Bop Girl Goes Calypso (United Artists).

Early forms of calypso were also influenced by jazz such as Sans Humanitae. In this extempo melody calypsonians lyricise impromptu, commenting socially or insulting each other, "sans humanité" or "without humanity" (which is again a reference to French influence).

Calypso evolved very closely with other pan-Atlantic musical genres such as Jazz, Mento, Kompa, Son, and Highlife.

In the mid-1970s Lord Shorty combined the Afro-Caribbean calypso with rhythmic elements of Indo-Trinidadian Chutney music to create soca, which would grow to replace calypso as the dominant genre at carnival.

Lassan tíz éve, hogy az Est FM-en elkezdtük a Táskarádió című műsorunkat. A stáb : Sleki, Áfonya és Lipi volt. Minden csütörtökön hajnali 3 órától 6-ig voltunk adásban. Kellemes hangulatban játszottunk ska és reggae zenéket néha vendégekkel.
A műsor a késői/korai időpontja ellenére elég nagy népszerűségnek örvendett. Előfordult, hogy bizonyos éjszakai munkások pl. pékségek dolgozói csütörtök éjjelre kérték a beosztásukat, hogy vidámabban teljen a munkaidejük. Nem voltak hálátlanok, mert szinte minden csütörtök reggel 6 körül megállt a rádió előtt egy kenyérszállító teherautó és rengeteg remek péksüteménnyel (extra feltöltéssel) indíthattuk a napot. Előfordult, hogy a hallgatók betelefonáltak, hogy ugorjon le valaki a rádió elé, mert meglepi pezsgők, sörök és egyéb ajándékok várnak. A március 10-i hajnali Tilos Rádiós Rasztaműhely-ben ezekre az időkre emlékeztünk. A műsorban tradicionális jamaicai ska bakelitek pörögtek szigorúan a '60-as évekből hasonló hangulatban, mint a Táskarádióban. A műsor kétszer egy órás és emitt letölthető:

1971. március 8-án Ali kihívta Joe Fraziert. Az amerikaiak nem nézték jó szemmel a lázadó katonai szolgálatot megtagadó ökölvívót. Nagyon sokan megvetették a muszlim hitre tért fekete olimpiai bajnokot. Amerika számára ő volt a tapintatlan, a hadseregtől meglógott, felelőtlen feketebőrű muzulmán, aki nyíltan szembeszegült Amerika törvényeivel. A Madison Square Gardenben rendezték a "XX. század összecsapása" néven beharangozott mérkőzést. Frazier és Ali nagyon kemény 14 menetet vívtak. Mindketten nagyon fáradtak voltak a 14 menet végére, Frazier majdnem vakon küzdötte végig a 14. menetet mivel egyik szeme már 1964-1965 óta sérült volt a másik pedig a sok ütéstől sérült meg a mérkőzés során. Amikor kikerültek a sarokba a 14. menet után, Ali azt mondta, nem tud visszamenni a 15. menetre, de ezt senki nem vette tudomásul. Nem volt ideje bedobni a törölközőt, és mivel Frazier edzője megkérdezte Frazier-t, hogy hány ujját látja és ő egyet látott az edző két felmutatott ujja helyett, Frazier beleegyezése nélkül bedobta a törölközőt. Lefújták a mérkőzést a 15. menet előtt. Így a mérkőzést végül is Ali nyerte. Ali mégegyszer bocsánatot kért 2001-ben a New York Times-ban Fraziertől. Ez a mérkőzés beváltotta a hozzá fűzött reményeket és a mai napig ez a meccs maradt a XX. század összecsapása. A két bokszgéniusz további életében ez a meccs örökre fájó pont maradt. 1974. október 30-án viszont Muhammad Ali lett a nehézsúlyú világbajnok, mert Zaire-ban kiütötte George Foremant. Ezután sorozatban tízszer védte meg ezt a címet.
Muhammad Ali 1981 decemberében végérvényesen visszavonult a profi ökölvívástól.

The Pioneers are a Jamaican reggae vocal trio, whose main period of success was in the 1960s. They were one of the most notable harmony bands of the early reggae period in the late 1960s. The trio has had different line-ups, and still occasionally performs. Formed in 1962 by Winston Hewitt and the brothers Sydney and Derrick Crooks, the Pioneers were one of Jamaica's finest harmony groups.Their early recordings "Good Nanny" and "I'll Never Come Running Back to You" were self-produced at the Treasure Isle studio using money lent to the Crooks brothers by their mother and appeared on Ken Lack's Caltone label.Hewitt emigrated to Canada, to be replaced for around a year by former Heptone Glen Adams. These early singles were not successful and Sydney began promoting concerts, while Derrick took up a job with the Alcoa bauxite company. Sydney began working at Joe Gibbs' record shop, and through Gibbs, returned to recording; At his first session (to record "Give Me Little Loving"), with the other members of The Pioneers gone, Crooks recruited Jackie Robinson, who he found outside the studio just before recording began. Crooks later said of the encounter:

"When I was about to voice the song I looked outside the studio and I saw a little boy sitting on a stone. I said 'Hey, come here man, you can sing?' He sung the harmony for 'Give Me Little Loving' and his name was Jackie Robinson. After that I said to him 'You are one of the Pioneers from today' and he became the lead singer of the Pioneers".

The new version of The Pioneers enjoyed success with singles such as "Longshot" (a track written and produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry on Gibbs' behalf about a long-lived but unsuccessful racehorse),"Jackpot", "Catch the Beat", and "Pan Yu Machete" (an attack on Perry, who left Gibbs in 1968 to start woking on his own productions. Crooks and Robinson also recorded as The Soul Mates in 1967.The group parted ways with Gibbs after an argument and moved on to work with Leslie Kong, the first recording for Kong being "Samfie Man", a song about a confidence trickster, which topped the Jamaican singles chart.After a few further singles with Kong, the group recruited Desmond Dekker's half-brother George Agard to become a trio again. Sydney Crooks and his former Pioneer brother Derrick, along with Winston Bailey also recorded as The Slickers,recording "Nana" for producer Neremiah Reid. The Pioneers scored again with a sequel to "Long Shot", "Long Shot (Kick De Bucket)". When Kong heard that the horse had died (during its 203rd race),he insisted that the group write a song about it; The song was written and recorded quickly and became an instant hit.

The band was popular in the United Kingdom, particularly among skinheads. "Long Shot Kick de Bucket" was a big hit in 1969, and led to a tour of the UK, during which they resolved to relocate there. Their cover of Jimmy Cliff's "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah" made #5 as a single in 1971."Long Shot Kick de Bucket" was covered by The Specials on their The Special AKA Live! EP, which was a UK #1 hit in 1980.

The band did indeed move to the UK in 1970. Their third UK hit was "Give and Take", which reached #35 in January 1972. In 1975 they were the first reggae band to tour in Japan. The band split up for a time in the 1970s, with Crooks concentrating on production work and continuing with his brother in The Slickers, while Agard and Robinson continued to record, together on the album George & Jackie Sing, and separately. The group reformed in the late 1970s and continued until 1989, when they split again to concentrate on separate careers. In 1999, they reformed again and have continued to perform together since.

"Long Shot Kick de Bucket", which was a minor UK chart hit again in 1980 upon re-issue, was used in the 2008 film, The Wackness. In 2005, the Pioneers performed at the Maranhão Roots Reggae Festival in São Luís, Brazil before 15,000 fans.The following year they appeared at the Godiva Festival in the War Memorial Park, Coventry, England.

Rocksteady Selection

Rocksteady is a music genre that was most popular in Jamaica, starting around 1966, and its reggae successor was established around 1968.[1] The term rocksteady comes from a dance style that was mentioned in the Alton Ellis song "Rock Steady". A successor to Jamaican ska, and a precursor to reggae, rocksteady was performed by Jamaican vocal harmony groups such as The Gaylads, The Kingstonians, The Maytals and The Paragons. Dances performed to rocksteady were less energetic than the earlier ska dance moves. Rocksteady differs from ska musically as the tempo is slower and more relaxed. The bass is heavier and more prominent in the mix and in addition, the bass lines abandon the earlier "walking" style of the ska period in favor of more broken, syncopated figures. The ska-style back beat and the emphasis on the offbeat carried over into rocksteady.

tegnap vittem le ezt az ötletemet a t-rex riders próbára és neki estünk megcsinálni. ma pedig itthon feljátszottam a dob, bass, és a gitársávokat, aztán összegyúrtam nagyjából. ezen a felvételen még nincs ének, hanem felraktam rá még egy gitár sávot.

a rank with bruce lee munkacímet viselő darab a közeljövőben megjelenő új paso lemez rank with me című számunk dobsávjának megbolondításából indult. egyenlőre egy instrumentális alap, amire jönnek majd az ének sávok. feljátszottam 2 gitársávot és egy basszus sávot,tapsot és megkértem a macskámat, hogy kurrogjon fel rá egy sávot.

Új Dub Garden felvételek: Backstage Dub

kb. egy hónapja a fejembe mászkált már hetek óta egy basszus menet és szerencsémre a próbatermünk pihenőjében ott lógott egy pár barátom. miután megmutattam a riddimet, azon nyomban rögzítettük a felvételt.
darta wada (t-rex riders) bass, no sick (t-rex riders, another day énekes) didjeridoo, tom (t-rex riders, another day) dob én most itt csak gitároztam. krsa-tól kaptam régebben "ének" hangmintákat, ezekből kiválogattam egy párat és rákevertem a felvételre. kicsit megkevertem az egészet, majd megcsináltam a soundot és beduboltam.

később ezt megmutattam a pasos kollegáimnak és bejött nekik. miután diósdon éppen az új paso lemez utolsó felvételeit rögzítettük és volt egy kis időnk, megmutattam a többieknek a riddimet és felvettünk. ami ebben nagyon jó, hogy jánosi béla bácsinál diósdon az utolsó mohikánként szalagra rögzítünk mint a régi szép időkben. megjegyzem, hogy még mindig ezzel az 50 éves analóg technikával készült felvételek szólnak a legjobban. megkaptam a felvételeket sávonként és röpke 40 órás melóval megcsináltam nagyjából a nótát.

Új Dub Garden felvétel: Gun Shot Storm - Busa Pista és Mr. P. version

ma elküldtem busa pistának az egyik kész riddimemet, hogy hallgassa meg és, ha van rá ötlete karattyoljon rá. előtte pár órával megkértem mr.p.-t, hogy rakjon rá egy hammond orgona sávot.
pistának egyből beugrott a szöveg, amiben megénekli élete történetét. itthon mindenzt összekevertem, helyére raktam és egy kicsit effekteztem. krsa melodimaker című gyerekkori játékhangszerével játszottam fel a billentyű szólamot az üres eredeti riddimre. kellemes melankólikus rub-a-dub-hop sláger :)

először rádióknak készítettem előre gyártott műsorokat és ebből jött az ötlet, hogy házibulikra és az ismerőseimnek is nagyszerű ajándék egy-egy előre kitalált mix, ráadásul nagyon kellemes kikapcsolódással járó feladat. (és néha lehet lógni is a melóból a dj pult mögött)

Reggae Train mix
egy kizárólag vonatokról, vonatozásról szóló összeállítás. '60-as '70-es évek jamaica ska, rocksteady, lover's rock, reggae.

ez a rövid összeállítás a franco nero c. remek korai reggae nóta és a verziói összakapcsolásából áll.

Skalipso mix
count owen kiváló calypso és ska előadó volt. érdekes sajátossága, hogy a fúvós szekció nélkül készültek a felvételek. különböző előadóktól igyekeztem úgy összerakni a cuccot, hogy a ska stíluson belül teljesen hallható legyen a calypso zene is. igen jó tánczene abból az időszakból amikor jamaicaban a calypso, mento és az amerikai rythm and blues hatására kialakult a ska.

a nyári konyhánkban kialakítottam egy kisebb studiót, ahol a dob, basszus, gitár, billentyű és egyéb hangszereken játszom és rögzítem ezeket sávonként. itt keverem és dubolom a saját szerzeményeimet, amit kiosztok fúvós hangszereseknek és mc-knek meghallgatásra. feljátszás után a két felvételt megkeverem együtt. így készülnek a dubgardenben a felvételek.

START AGAIN
az első felvétel a start again c számom. a sikersztorija az, hogy elveszett minden anyag és teljesen újra kellett kezdenem az egészet. a start again c. szám a címét még a teljes elveszés előtt kapta...
hangszerek: dobok, bass, gitár1, gitár2, konyhai eszközök: káposzta és sajt reszelő, bogrács.
kedves barátom és kollégám mr.tommy hot a paso-ból volt szíves és felránott rá egy remek tenor szaxofon szólót. a felvételre a 60 as évek közepe jamaica zenei hatása a jellemző. még nem reggae, de már nem ska. én zizi regginek hívom. rengeteg ilyen lemezem van, mert nagyon kedvelem ezt a roots reggae előtti zenei állapotot is.
